We want Peter's Place to be a school your child loves to attend. We believe in creating a comfortable, nurturing environment for children.
We provide what children need to move through their world with assurance and confidence.
Our program supports the play of children, activities that involve the mind and body and the social
interaction that is needed to be part of the community. Play gives children the opportunities to
learn how to get along with others, use their imagination, gain physical confidence, express emotions,
and be stimulated intellectually. We believe in letting children have lots of time to play,
while also having a safe, dependable structure to the day. We maintain a low teacher-to-student ratio,
with at least three licensed teachers, and no more than 20 children per class.

SOCIAL
For many of our children nursery school is a first adventure beyond home and family. We help children to become successful in creating and sustaining satisfying friendships. Children also learn that they can find the emotional support they need from our caring staff.
|
We support children in discovering who they are, developing self-respect and learning to respect others. Each child brings something unique to their Peter’s Place class, as our students come from different communities, cultures, and family situations from all over San Francisco. We value the contribution that each child and each family make to our school community.
EMOTIONAL As you undoubtedly know, children are complex. Listening to our children is a top priority. We understand that children develop emotionally at different paces, and we try to accommodate each child according to his or her own needs. This means providing individual one-on-one time as needed, for problem solving, comforting, and encouraging.
|
EXPRESSIVE
We believe that children develop expressive skills when they are exposed to a variety of activities that foster language and literacy through meaningful experiences, that encourage communications with adults and other children and that allow for a range of answers and opinions.
|
|
We believe that children benefit from daily opportunities for aesthetic and creative expression through dance, dramatic play, music and a variety of media arts.
COGNITIVE
We believe that young children learn through play, exploration and problem solving rather than relying on rote memorization. While our program is intended to prepare children with the skills they need to enter Kindergarten, we don't feel that rigorous academic training is appropriate for those of preschool age. Rather, we strive to make children feel supported and emotionally safe in trying out new opportunities for creative and cognitive growth.

PHYSICAL Children need daily opportunities to develop both fine and gross motor skills, as well as blow off steam! Our schedule balances indoor and outdoor times, self-directed play with teacher-directed activities, and allows for a variety of physical experiences.
